Product Description
The Fairey Firefly is a two-seat carrier-based fighter aircraft developed by the British company Fairey as a successor to the Fulmar fighter.
Although this aircraft made its maiden flight in 1941, development delays meant that its first deployment to combat units was at the end of 1943, and it did not participate in combat until the summer of 1944.
Its initial missions mainly involved armed reconnaissance along the Norwegian coast under German occupation and attacks on enemy ships in the area. During the attack on the German battleship Tirpitz on August 24, 1944, it was tasked with escorting the attack force.
In 1945, it entered the Pacific Ocean, and in July of the same year, it flew over Tokyo, marking the first time a British military aircraft had flown over mainland Japan during World War II.
After the war, the Firefly was deployed to Canada, Australia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Ethiopia, India, and Thailand, and remained in service until the 1960s.
The kit we are introducing today is a reproduction of the Mk.4/5, the last fighter variant of the Firefly series, which was used by Britain and Australia as a carrier-based fighter-bomber during the Korean War and remained in service until the armistice.
