The Seibu 6000 series was introduced in 1992 as a train for mutual through-service between the Seibu Ikebukuro Line and the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line. It is the only train on the Seibu Railway line to feature a stainless steel body, and was the first train to be introduced as a 10-car fixed formation.
It features a style never seen before on Seibu trains, such as a curved front end and an emergency passageway compatible with subways.
Starting with the 6151 train set manufactured after 1996, the body structure has been made of aluminum, and further differences include the abolition of door pocket windows from the 6156 to 6158 train sets manufactured after 1997.
