Product Description

──Active until 2002! The 3400 series, a preserved train in working order!

[Vehicle Introduction]
Nagoya Railroad, which was formed through the merger of Aichi Electric Railway and Meigi Railway, introduced its first new type of train, the 3400 series, in 1937 for use on the Eastern Line (Jingumae - Toyohashi).
It featured a streamlined design that was popular at the time, a skirt that covered the entire undercarriage equipment from the lower front to the sides, and a paint job in shades of green, and was affectionately nicknamed "Caterpillar" by fans.
Although initially manufactured as a two-car train, intermediate cars were added in 1950 and 1953, eventually forming a four-car train that continued to operate on the Nagoya Main Line.
In 1967, major maintenance (renovation work) was carried out, including the replacement of the front windows with continuous-window-style curved glass and the replacement of the side window frames with aluminum.
The body paint scheme has been changed several times, from [light and dark green] (1937-) to [candy pink and maroon two-tone] (around 1953-) to [straw cream with a scarlet stripe] (around 1968-) to [single scarlet color] (around 1976-).
In 1984, they underwent modifications to allow for coupling and continued to operate, but due to aging, all but two cars, [3403] and [2403], were scrapped.
The remaining two cars were renumbered as [3403→3401] and [2403→2401].
In 1993, it received the Evergreen Award from the Japan Railfan Club, and as a result, it was restored to its original dark and light green color scheme.
Afterwards, it underwent modifications such as air conditioning installation and bogie replacement, but it was retired in August 2002.
