The JR Shikoku 7000 series is a DC electric train with a double driver's cab, 25 of which were manufactured between 1990 and 1992. It was the first JR suburban train to use VVVF inverter control.
The car body is equipped with three passenger doors on each side, with single-wing doors on both ends and a double-wing door in the middle, and the low-roof design uses a newly developed S-PS58 pantograph, allowing the train to run in the narrow tunnel sections west of Minoura Station on the Yosan Line.
