This model was introduced in 2007 for the purpose of updating the vehicles of JR East Sendai Branch and for use on the Sendai Airport Access Line.
The vehicle features a low-floor body structure with small-diameter wheels to accommodate the low-floor platforms of local train lines, and is barrier-free with no steps at the entrances and exits.
In addition to the previously introduced 0 series/500 series (2-car formations), the 1000 series, a fixed 4-car formation, was introduced in 2016, and when combined with vehicles owned by third-sector companies that share the same manufacturer and basic design, there are a wide variety of variations in this model.
This time, we will be releasing three types: a two-car set of the 0 series and a four-car set of the 1000 series, all with one-man operation, and a six-car set (specially planned item) consisting of the 0 series and 1000 series, both with non-one-man operation.
They are in service on the Tohoku Main Line (Shin-Shirakawa to Ichinoseki), Joban Line (north of Haranomachi), Senzan Line (Sendai to Yamagata), and Ban'etsu West Line (Koriyama to Aizuwakamatsu).

The two-car set is a reproduction of the P-13 train set belonging to the Sendai Rolling Stock Center, which is equipped with a one-man display next to the door. The underfloor equipment such as bogies and skirts are reproduced in gray.
The four-car set is a reproduction of the P4-6 formation belonging to the Sendai Rolling Stock Center, with the bogies and underfloor equipment in gray and the skirts in blue-gray.
The six-car set is made up of the P-7 (0 series) and P4-11 (1000 series) trains belonging to the Sendai Rolling Stock Center, which do not have one-man indicators next to the doors. The underfloor equipment of the 0 series, such as the bogies and skirts, is reproduced in gray, while the underfloor equipment of the 1000 series, such as the bogies and skirts, is reproduced in blue-gray.

The coupler at the front of the lead car can be coupled with the 701 series. The intermediate coupling surface uses a body-mounted close-coupling coupler (without hook).
