[Actual vehicle introduction]
In order to further increase the appeal of the Tobu Railway Kinugawa Line, a tourist train using a steam locomotive was planned.
For this purpose, various JNR-type locomotives, passenger cars, cabooses, and equipment were collected from all over Japan, and the trains began operating as the SL Taiki and SL Futara in 2017.
The DE10, which was introduced along with the steam locomotives, is a 5-axle diesel locomotive formerly owned by JR East. It is used for a variety of purposes, such as for passenger cars and steam locomotives to be inspected, for auxiliary engines, and for pulling dead-end trains, and it also sometimes pulls special trains and runs on other companies' lines.
DE10-1099 is painted vermilion, while DE10-1109 is painted blue with gold stripes, imitating the locomotives used to pull JR Hokkaido's sleeper express trains.
In addition, Yo 5000 (Yo 13785) is a vehicle that was preserved by another company after it was no longer in use by the Japanese National Railways. Although it underwent restoration work, it was not registered as a vehicle. Instead, it is preserved within the Minami-Kurihashi Factory and can be seen being towed by a yard mobile vehicle during events.
